Happy New Year
Home visiting?? Yes, it is. They are my group member and the granny is the patient assigned to us. In this semester, we have a module called Comprehensive Health Care that requires us not merely to seek the medical problem of the patient, also the psychosocioeconomy aspect of the patient. This module has no theory paper and thus, the marks given is totally based on the presentation and report. In fact, it is a fairly easy module but it turns out to be an exciting assignment for my group.
In the first visit, when the granny was still in the hospital, the doctor in charged asked us to take her as the subject of our presentation. We found this old lady was very friendly and talkative so we had no problem in clerking her history. Besides, she was also very cooperative because she allowed us to visit her house after she was discharged. She gave her daughters' phone so that we could make an appointment with them. At that moment, we were very grateful for having such a good patient.
Everything ran smoothly till the day I called to her elder daughter. I was in shock when her daughter rejected us to have a home visit. How could it be?? I told her that the nenek agreed with us during the first visit. Surprisingly, she told us that her mother didn't want to meet anyone because she was lazy and tired. At the same time, she also gave many excuses like she was busy with her children and household chores. Although I had tried to persuade her, she still stood firm at her ground and asked us to take another patient as our subject. She said there are thousands of patient in hospital and thus, there is no reason in insisting on her mother as the subject. She never know that we had already done half of our work and it was quite impossible for us to start everything all over again. Without the photo for home visit, the presentation and report will be given a low mark because it is not complete. This made us worried so much and we started blaming the nenek for being a hypocrite as she welcomed us initially but changed her mind (like a girl changes her clothes) later.
After discussing with the group members and my doctor, we decided to try our luck to "attack" her house. We planned to visit her house without making any appointment. On that day, we brought some fruits and stood in front of her house hoping they would show their mercies by letting us in. Fortunately, they were at home as we were fear of we would meet no one there if they all went out. There was a girl in the living room and I asked the girl to called her mother so that I could beg her mother to give us the permission to enter. We waited patiently for a couple of minutes and finally, the nenek walked out from the back of the house and kindly invited us to enter the house. I was wondering. Yes, again the nenek was friendly and cooperative as she was in the first visit in hospital. It was total contradictory to what her daughter had told. She also allowed us to take photo at her and also in the house where it was necessary. I was informed that the daughter was in the room, yet she did not come out to meet us throughout the visit. After an hour, we asked for leave as we were afraid of the nenek was tired but the nenek held us for another 30 minutes. She seemed very happy that somebody visited her. Thus, I could see that it was her daughter who created a story not letting us come and now she kept hiding in the room since we had revealed the fact she was lying.
Complication of Diabetes Melitus
Complication of phlebotomyOn the way back, one of my group member, Ana told me that the nenek's daughter gave her a call but she did not dare to answer the call. As the group leader, I had no choice but to call her back and find out what she wanted to tell me. I was expecting something bad from her. Indeed, she answered my call and gave a "lesson" to me. She was accusing me for entering her house without making appointment and taking photo in her house without her permission. Sweat. Furthermore, she scolded me for being so tacticful by cheating them like this and so rude. I was too lazy to explain to her unreasonable complaints because it was the nenek who invited us into the house and if she did not want us it, why didn't she stop us at the very beginning? If she did, I would never step my foot into her house as I might be held in the lockup for intruding other house. But, luckily she did not or otherwise I would not have my photos for the project.
The more she scolded, the louder her voice till everyone in the car could listen to her without speaker (I was nearly deaf that time even though I put the hand phone away from my ears). In the end, she asked for the number of my doctor in charged and she swore she would bring the case forward to my doctor. Haih.. What a noisy woman. However, I was not worried at all as the doctor reassured me that I was at the right side and most important, I obtained the the things for my project. Blek.... :-P
